Built for bulk, not for weight
The extra eighteen inches of wall is where the 30 earns its keep — and where people get in trouble. Those walls are for framing lumber, cabinetry, doors, trim, furniture, mattresses that have been cleared for the load, insulation, and packaging: material that eats space faster than it adds pounds. Fill a 30 to the rim with soil, concrete, or wet roofing and it is overweight long before it is full. Dense debris gets a smaller box and an agreed fill height; the 30 carries the bulk. On mixed demolition jobs we routinely plan both.
Jobs that actually need 30 yards here
Gutting three or more rooms in one push. A whole-home renovation ahead of a sale. Clearing a business property, storage unit rows, or a rental portfolio turnover. Interior demolition where walls, ceilings, and flooring all come out. Fire- or storm-damage strip-outs. If your project reads like one of those, start at 30. If it is one room short of that list, price the 20-yard box first — an empty top third is money spent on air.
Loading a six-foot wall
Nobody lobs a couch over a six-foot side. Open the rear door and walk the big pieces in first, stacked tight against the front wall, then layer lighter debris on top. Break down hollow items so they nest. Keep the load level and below the rim — anything proud of the top edge comes off before the truck can winch the box on. Leave the door swing and the loading path clear for the full rental window.
Placement and access
The floor is the same 22 feet as the 20, so the ground rules match: firm, level surface, straight truck approach, and clearance overhead. The taller box makes overhead clearance matter more — low branches and service drops that clear a 4.5-foot container can snag the lift on a 6-foot one, so report them when you book. Where big loads land
Demolition and cleanout loads route to permitted El Paso County outlets. The WM Colorado Springs Landfill on Blaney Road lists C&D debris and municipal solid waste as accepted materials, Waste Connections' Fountain Landfill east of Fountain is a state-permitted municipal solid waste site, and the El Paso County Transfer Station that opened off Hancock Expressway in 2026 takes C&D and household loads — construction debris, roofing, yard waste, and concrete — and consolidates them for the landfill run. Is a 30-yard box too big for a residential driveway?
Not usually. The footprint is the same 22 by 7.5 feet as the 20 — only the walls are taller. If a 20 fits on your driveway, a 30 fits in the same spot. What changes is loading: plan to walk material in through the rear door or stage a step, because a 6-foot wall is a real lift.
Should I take one 30 or two 20s?
One 30 when the debris is light and bulky and comes out in one continuous push. Two boxes when the job runs in phases, when dense material needs its own load plan, or when site space only fits one small box at a time. Lay out the schedule for us and we will quote both options straight.
Can concrete or roofing go in a 30?
Dense material belongs in a smaller box with an agreed fill height — a 30 loaded deep with concrete or shingles goes overweight long before it fills. On mixed jobs we split it: heavy debris in a 15 or 20, bulky light debris in the 30. Clean concrete and asphalt can be recycled locally instead.
An office cleanout has old computers and monitors. Can they ride along?
No. Colorado has banned electronics from landfill disposal since 2013 under the Electronic Recycling Jobs Act, and the ban covers business sources as well as households. TVs, computers, monitors, and peripherals need an e-waste route. Everything else from the cleanout is fair game for the box.
