Which size for which house job

A 15-yard box clears one packed room, a small deck, or a brush pile, and it is the right call when heavy material like tile or concrete is in the mix. The 20-yard box is the common home size — a full kitchen tear-out, a two-car garage, or a typical whole-house cleanout. The 30-yard box steps in when three or more rooms empty at once or a renovation guts most of the house. Sizing by phone is honest because the weight terms are set in the same call.

Driveway placement, planned before the truck rolls

Pick a firm, level stretch of driveway the truck can reach in a straight line. The container rests on steel rails; boards under the rails spread the load on surfaces you care about. Keep the spot clear of the garage swing, hydrants, meters, and shared access, and point the rear door toward where you will actually load. Walk the approach first — report gates, low limbs, overhead lines, parked cars, and steep grades when you book, because a west-side hillside driveway can carry a box only if the flat section and the approach both work.

No driveway? The street is a permit question.

On your own property, no city right-of-way process applies. But if the only workable spot is the street, Colorado Springs treats that as private use of public right-of-way — the city's revocable-permit page names trash and construction dumpsters explicitly, requires a site plan, and reserves the right to revoke the permit at any time. The cleanout items Colorado bans from the box

Statewide rules pull a short list out of every household load: electronics (banned from Colorado landfills since 2013 — TVs, computers, monitors, peripherals), lead-acid batteries, liquids including liquid paint, used oil, and tires. Refrigerators and freezers need refrigerant recovered before disposal, and the county's recycling directory lists the Colorado Springs Landfill for that Freon recovery.
